So ...so glad! 

 I visited Philly today. Photographer, Zoe Strauss really knows how to make people right at home.

The I-95 -09 show regardless of the weather conditions (it was raining a little) was great and  it never rained underneath  the  I-95 , where Zoe and her photographic work shined all day! 

From the welcoming pretzels,water and a big hug from Zoe's mom, I felt right at home and eager to see the whole show.The new Alaska photographs series are quite beautiful and if I am not mistaken, the first place they are shown ( lucky the ones who got and bought those) .

Everybody was in great spirits and people from all walks of life and ages were curiously staring and contemplating the range and thematic variety that Zoe brings to her shows.

I think that finally!!!, the local Philadelphian's are finally realizing the jewel of talent that Zoe truly is.

Even the local newspapers are taking notice about the I-95 exhibit and Zoe . I can predict you that next year the final of the project , will be a pretty serious one and that here is a lot more good things coming out of  Zoe ''La Divina''Strauss the name  she is known to most of art collectors and friends .

For the driven out of towners like me that get what Zoe is all about. the journey is always refreshing and quite rewarding!

I was so happy to see several New York photographers like Amy Elkins, Clayton Cotorrel, Amy Stein , Dina Cantor, Timothy Briner, Ofer Wolfberger and the  local ones like Chad States and Justin Reed be present for the event to provide support and  to celebrate.

Me being me...a driven and determined one ...I zeroed in the Kelly Harper photograph. Zoe knew it from the get go. So after I saw the whole show, and thought of how many I liked and would like. very calmly parked myself right next to Kelly Harper photo and did not move till after 4:00 PM when the photos came down . More some day about The story of Kelly Harper.

People were just fascinated and kept asking me why that particular photo and all I said was ...some things are meant to be and this photo is meant to come back to NYC with me. The true meaning of art collecting is to find works that speak to you and that fit right in with your collection. This photo does it for me and more.

All, I can say from me and all of us is THANK YOU ZOE!...LOVE YOU!!!!!!!

From the  Francesco Clemente show, I walked down to #3 Wooster Street to Stricola Gallery where WILD THINGS were really happenning. Let me tell you every single piece in this show, I really liked . The show was curated by Greg Garry and in my opinion he did a fantastic job. Great artists , great selection of photographs. The way the photographs interact with each other is just brilliant, you got to see this show...it is Fierce!! Meow!!!

Greg told me that a catalog will be made from the show and I think it is a must have!

Francesco Clemente @ Deitch Projects

ARTmostfierce went downtown Saturday to the former gallery meca...SoHo.

Well...it is still kind of happening down there.I started at Deitch Projets were painter Francesco Clemente was having a serious show packed wall to wall. I could not even get a picture.Great show got to see it.It was a big mob scene!

A History of the Heart in Three Rainbows, a monumental suite of large-scale watercolor paintings by Francesco Clemente, will be presented at Deitch Projects’s Wooster Street gallery in May. The paintings will wrap around the perimeter of the gallery, creating an atmosphere of contemplation and ritual. The work continues the artist’s ongoing project of transforming spiritual life experience into art. The lightness of the rainbow represents a breakthrough from the darkness, from the long night of the artist’s darker palette.

ARTmostfierce was able to go and see only two shows . This was the other one . At Clampart , Brian always has the right eye candy photography to make you want to buy and  own.

 For me it is always a combination of pleasure and pain because ...you kind want to buy it all. I must tell you the minute this recession is over  or I hit the mega millions, this is one of the galleries to go on a real shopping spree.  99.9% of the shows, I always like and the prices are very reasonable.  The selection of artists, series and work is right up my alley.

The photographic work of Stan Gaz is very interesting and rightly so, for being presented on very large format photographs. Considering all the effort that Stan puts in to creating the photo series, the prices and edition number are extremely reasonable and collectable. Now...you really need an empty wall for this ones. They are beautiful and command to be alone in the wall. The photographs of craters demonstratrates an exploration of life,  a larger vision of the globe and providing meditation about the Universe.

In the project and more intimate room @ Clampart the photo series of German photographer, Andrea Diefenbach , AIDS In Odessa showcase a more social -photo journalistic approach dealing with the HIV and AIDS in Odessa , Ukraine. The photographs provide and intimate view of what is really happening in that part of the world and makes us aware of the fact that the global proportions of the AIDS epidemic . There is a book published from this photo series that shares more light into the subject and it is quite beautifully put together . Go and see both of this artists in this show. Different perspectives and approach but, they both have a global approach and conscience.

Last night in Chelsea Wonderland...

ARTmostfierce was able to cover two shows last night (I had no idea , time went fast or too much wine went  down my throat) At Pace Wildestein , it is Chuck Close show in four years. The show is well... Chuck Close, who cannot do wrong with me because, I am a big fan of his work. The paintings are brilliant specially when you get up and close, becoming a great abstract and  decontructivist color blocks.

I really liked the tapestries.I thought they are very elegant and who would not like a portrait of Bratt Pitt or Cindy Sherman hanging at your home for a mere $3 million of an edition of six?

The paintings price...I leave it to your imagination.

This show is definitely defying the current global Economic Recession.Go and see it!

PaceWildenstein, which has represented Chuck Close for more than thirty years, is pleased to present Chuck Close: Selected Paintings and Tapestries, 2005-2009 from May 1through June 20, 2009

Chuck Close: Selected Paintings and Tapestries, 2005-2009 features seven oil on canvas paintings measuring between 72" x 60" and 108-1/2" x 84". The exhibition includes a new self-portrait and two portraits of artist Zhang Huan, one rendered in black and white and the other in color. Other subjects include artist James Siena, Close’s daughters Georgia and Maggie, who have been portrayed by the artist in various mediums since 1984, and President Bill Clinton, a 2006 painting on loan from the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

In addition to his large-scale painting, it is widely known that for several decades Close has employed a range of printmaking and photography methods in his continuous investigations of the human face. As early as 1991, Close also began working with another medium to create a woven portrait of one of his favorite subjects, the composer Philip Glass, in China.

In 2004, thirteen years later, the artist returned to the medium, this time working with a Jacquard loom in Belgium. These Jacquard tapestries, woven between 2004 and 2009, originate from recent daguerreotype or Polaroid portraits of Ellen Gallagher, Philip Glass, Lyle Ashton Harris, Brad Pitt, Andres Serrano, Cindy Sherman, Lorna Simpson as well as two self-portraits; one is a 15' horizontal work featuring five consecutive views of Close, offering a near panoramic, new viewpoint of the artist’s frequently rendered visage.
