Hurricane Katrina 5 year Anniversary- Richard Misrach + Dave Anderson= Aperture Foundation

Photo by Richard Misrach courtesy of Aperture Foundation

It has been 5 long years since Hurricane Katrina left a path of destruction to several southern states and areas. There has been some progress but still, a lot of work needs to be done. Photographer Richard Misrach spent some time down in New Orleans during 2005 and captured the mood, desolation, destruction and visuals by photographing several structures, objects and facades in which mostly text was written on.

The text written on the structures surfaces truly tell  the story. I saw the book and must tell you that is phenomenal and it is a must have, not only for its content but also because, the artist royalties are being donated to the Make it Right Foundation, which is currently rebuilding the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. By buying this great book you will be contributing to rebuild a part of America that 5 years later still needs help. Kudos to Aperture Foundation for publishing such a heartfelt book and Richard Misrach for telling the story with such strong images.

There is also another book by Dave Anderson  titled One Block : A New Orleans Neighborhood Rebuilds(see more info below) that also, focuses in a particular block in New Orleans. Dave Anderson just had his solo show about this series at Clampart Gallery : http://www.clampart.com/artists/anderson/andersonob1.htm
