—noun, a group art exhibition in Oxnard, California this December 2009

Featuring fifteen international artists, Homesick debuts at Carnegie Art Museum December 12. Through mixed media including prints on paper, oil paintings, video installation, photography and sculpture, the show is an exploration of Homesick portrayed through images of wet landscapes, racing automobiles, grandmothers, track housing, meditative abstract illustration, stickers, and domestic housework.

Artists include Dennis McLeod whose line and drip ink works on paper were most recently shown in the exhibition "Rembrandt to Thiebaud: A decade of collecting works on paper" at the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco; Amy Elkins whose photography has been exhibited internationally from Kunsthalle wien in Vienna, Austria to The PIP International Photo Festival in Pingyao, China as well as a solo show at Yancey Richardson Gallery last year called "Wallflower"; Derick Melander whose sculptures have been exhibited in numerous NYC museums and galleries, with most recent projects being a community event with CENYC utilizing 3,615 pounds of clothing and a solo show at Vox Populi in Philadelphia, PA; Anthony Zepeda, a former Master Printmaker at Gemini G.E.L., whose prints have been exhibited around the world from Brazil to Thailand; and Livia Corona with her work, "Two Million Homes for Mexico" for which she was awarded a Fellowship by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.

His body of work "Los Ninos" has been shown by Rose Gallery at Paris Photo, Art Maimi and The Armory. He is half of the collaborative team Trujillo-Paumier that works editorially and commercially creating bodies of work that include "Hot Cakes" which belongs to the Weisman Art Foundation Collections.

Now here we have it. This is coming from two great NYC galleristas, Sasha Wolf and Michael Foley. Learn how really is done and get an exposure of gallery, learning, showing and dealing what is like in the real art business world.

Here is some info and, I suggest that you get your feet wet with these two art experts and enjoy the ride!

The Exhibition Lab is now accepting applications for their upcoming 2010 master class.

The Exhibition Lab offers the unique opportunity for photographers to work directly with two New York City gallery owners, creating new work to be curated in two concurrent group exhibitions.

This new initiative will provide an opportunity for emerging photographers to have their work seen, recognized and developed by two deeply committed advocates for photography and the creative process.

Application is by interview and portfolio review only. Upon acceptance, you will continue to develop your work with the guidance of gallery owners Michael Foley and Sasha Wolf. A total of 14 photographers will be selected to participate.

From January to June you will meet 6 times with Michael and Sasha at one of their two galleries for 3 hours under a rigorous group critique session. This will not be for the faint of heart. In addition, you will have 2 one-on-one sessions with them for approximately 45 minutes.

In June, a final edit will be made and each photographer will then have the opportunity to exhibit their work in one of the galleries during the month of July and August 2010.

This is the first year for The Exhibition Lab. We invite you to contact us, find out more details and share any questions you might have for us. We will be having two open houses in January, which will give you a chance to meet us and see the galleries. This is a unique opportunity to share the experience of working together, receive guidance and feedback, enjoy a growing community and gain recognition and support to ensure a dynamic experience for everyone.

We invite photographers from all disciplines to apply. You must be able to attend the critique meetings in person. Please contact us to receive dates for the open houses, seminar schedule and pricing structure.

Such an Inspiration

Rosa de la Cruz, Miami Art Collector

One of the best and greatest highlights during Miami Art Basel , was the pleasure of meeting and having a conversation using my native language with Rosa de la Cruz, A Miami Force of Nature, Art Collector during the opening of her brand new De La Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space.

From the minute I walked into this amazing space, I felt her presence and surely enough, saw this petite but, strong presence reining above the offices designed to look into the main lobby.Immediately, I knew it was her.

This is a great new destination in Miami to visit so while down there , where the weather , the food and the coffee almost made me stay, make sure you visit this collection. They have among many great things works by Ana Mendieta and Felix Gonzalez- Torres.

December 1, World AIDS Day

Gia Carangi, 1960-1986-Supermodel, Lesbian and one of the first women reported dead from AIDS

December 1 is always a day to remember all the ones lost to the AIDS epidemic. It is not over so, take a minute today to think about all the lives lost and how lucky you are to be healthy and alive. Friends, lovers, spouses, fathers, mothers and yes children had succumbed to this horrible disease. AIDS right now is the number one cause of death of Women Worldwide. I lost some dear friends, one of my best teachers and childhood girlfriend among many. It is also considered a Day Without Art due to the fact that the Art Community was highly affected by it. Be safe, healthy and find Real Love in the process.
