Folks!
Doing your homework ALWAYS pays off. After seeing Tracey Baran Show last Saturday, I really became and made everybody around me obsessed with her photographic work.
Well... my dear collector friend and photo editor Cesar Llacuna got an earful from me after seeing the show and, he set the wheels in motion and managed to get for him and ME the very last two edition prints that Tracey did a while back for a very very affordable price! Special thanks to Cesar, and Sara Miller,Membership and Fine Print Coordinator
Museum of Contemporary Photography @ MoCP, Chicago.
Tracey Baran creates visual journals, using color photography to record and
refine her experiences into images that reference fundamental themes such as
love, death, and regeneration. Baran works in an intuitive manner, making
spontaneous pictures that evidence an insistent process of visual discovery.
During the past decade, Baran has documented her own life and those around
her, including her parents, brother, lovers, and friends. In 2004 she took a road
trip across the country. Instead of documenting the culture and attractions around
her, she chose to create deeply personal images that reflect the process of selfdiscovery
that she experienced during the trip.
Tracey Baran was born in Bath, New York and has lived in New York City since
1993 when she enrolled at the School of Visual Arts. She was the recipient of the
Henry Buhl Foundation Grant First Prize in 2002. Her work is in numerous
collections and has been included in exhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum,
Bilbao, The Milwaukee Art Museum, Pusan Metropolitan Art Museum, South
Korea, and P.S. 1, New York, amongst others.
For more work by Tracey and others, have a look at the Tracey Baran Memorial Auction presented by the School of Visual Arts and iGavel.com. To honor Tracey's legacy, proceeds will go toward creating an annual grant, open by application, to an emerging female photographer from the US.
