Corey Arnold Fish-Work during the NY Photo Festival @ Caption Gallery 5/14/09

Photographer Corey Arnold will inaugurate Caption in Brooklyn’s DUMBO with an exhibition of photographs titled Fish-Work: Sea Stories. The show follows his successful debut at Chelsea’s Sara Tecchia Roma New York Gallery and will include selected photographs from that exhibition as well as previously unexhibited work. Fish-Work: Sea Stories will coincide with the opening of the New York Photo Festival ’09.

Caption will host a opening reception from 6:30-8:30 on Thursday, May 14, 2009.

I am a big fan of Arnold. I just figure he has his head screwed on and his career in a strong position. The Fine-Art-Fishing-Photography-Aesthetic is his. It's his brand.

Even if anyone did get on a commercial fishing boat for 4 uncomfortable months and took awesome photographs, they'd be told to go away and find another subject because Arnold has done it so well.

It is rare a photographer can find a subject so novel they can call it their own, but Arnold did it.

Of course, there's Jean Gaumy, but I think he had different intentions when going to sea.
